Reflective Narrative:
This course contributed to my fulfillment of the outcomes of the MLO by using research and technology everyday in our completion of our capstone. There was a lot of work that we completed that illustrates my development in this area. First, we have the literature review which is my first experience researching in-depth in English and Japanese and using APA formatted citations. I was able to get accustomed to using the library databases for research and learn how to organize information with something called a "Synthesis Chart". This is what helped my partner Diana and I organize our information in a way that we could successfully put our information into our literature review and make a solid base for our research. Once we had our literature review completed, we then went on to make our survey. We had to create a survey in English and one in Japanese, and we worked together with our professors to correct both of them and turn them into a straightforward survey.
When my partner and I first made our survey, we made a lot of questions that didn't really relate to our topic as much as we thought they would, so the collaboration we had with our professors was immensely helpful. I think this sense of teamwork in completing our capstone is the one thing that was the most significant to my completion of this MLO. Below I have attached our Japanese paper (see Evidence 1) and Japanese capstone powerpoint (see Evidence 2) as evidence towards my completion of this MLO. Without guidance from the schedule, professors, and partner I have, I wouldn't have been able to do such a detailed and tough project. This course is directly related to it's precursor, Pre-Capstone, in which we picked our partner, planned out our desired project topic, and presented to the professor how we thought we would execute our project plan. For Japanese majors, our capstone is actually one year compared to other students with different majors. This is why we have a Pre-Capstone and a Capstone, so that we have one year to complete our project. I want to further explore this learning experience by possibly researching more into our topic of fashion and discovering what else I can learn about it.
