Reflective Narrative:
One of the first things we did in this course is take a proficiency test called the STAMP test. This test, designed to test our reading, writing, speaking and listening, took approximately 2-4 hours to complete and is used to show our progress in learning the language once we take the test again at the end of our graduating year. Looking at the test results, I was able to learn that my weakest point was reading. It was incredibly helpful to see that because I then knew what part of the language I needed to focus on more. One other important part of this course was the lecture we had on possible job positions for language majors. Writing this in my graduating year, I am at a loss for what to do with my major because I don't want to teach and I don't want to go to graduate school. But, hearing all of the job positions that I didn't consider was a beneficial part of this course. This course is the first of its kind that I have taken, but everything I learned in this course will be incorporated into the capstone course I will take in my final semester. I want to further explore this learning experience by using the tools I learned in this class to graduate successfully and narrow down my career options. I also want to see what my results will be when I take the STAMP test again in my final semester.

On the right are the results of my first STAMP test. Because the grey shading in the triangles did not show up, I edited the photo coloring in order to show it better. Because of this test, I was able to learn that my reading needed improvement, and that my best point was writing. Japanese majors need to graduate with a proficiency of Intermediate-High, so it was very useful to see exactly which parts of my language learning I needed to work on.
